There are a few different local events happening this weekend. First, Indian River Archers is hosting an ASA Qualifier on Saturday at 9am. Registration begins at 8am. For more information visit https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/163962900373555/ or call John Bowersox.
Second, we will be helping the Martin County Farm Bureau put on a benefit shoot for Young Farmers and Ranchers on Sunday. Location is at Ranch Feed in Stuart. Map is below. Shoot starts at 9am and registration opens at 7:30am. There will be lots of prizes and giveaways. Turnout will be very good so register early if possible.
Don't forget about our club party next Sunday, January 29. We will be shooting 10 3d targets and shooting an ASA Indoor round. We will be giving away a hunt for those who participated in work parties and there may be a few other giveaways as well. That will also start at 9am.

Volunteers for Access Life Expo- February 18

Larry Sites is going to be organizing the archery activities at the Access Life Expo on Saturday, February 18. He is going to need a few people to help these kids shoot a bow and arrow. If you are interested in helping please contact Larry at 561-371-6931.

Gold Coast Shootout- Starting December 18

For years, Gold Coast Archers has participated in the annual Traveling 3D series along with neighboring clubs here in South Florida. This year some of the other clubs and the organizers have decided to not continue. As a club, we have decided that we would be missing out on an incredible opportunity for GCA and our members if we didn’t continue to do this ourselves. After much discussion we have created the Gold Coast Shootout. It will consist of 5 shoots, all at Gold Coast Archers, from December through May. Each shoot will cost $20 per shooter. $10 will go to GCA, $5 goes toward the payout at each shoot (based on score), and $5 will go toward prizes at the end of the series. Those prizes will consist of hunts, archery equipment, etc. The number of these prizes will be determined by donation and the number of participants in the series. These awards will not be decided by performance, class or age, but will be decided by participation. For each shoot you participate in, you will receive that many entries into the drawing to win those awards. Everyone has a chance to be a winner. There will be classes for all ages and shooting styles. Even if there is 1 shooter in your division, you will still win the $5 payout and receive an entry into the drawings. Kids will not receive money at each shoot, but will receive a trophy, medal, or plaque. They will however, still be entered into the drawings at the end of the shoot. Gold Coast will put on their famous pot luck lunch at each shoot. Cost will be $7 for lunch. Members from all clubs are welcome. This will be a great opportunity for new shooters as well. Anyone can be a winner. Dates are listed on the right.

There is quite a bit going on at the club this weekend. There is a Junior Olympic Archery Tournament Saturday morning at 9am. All kids are welcome to shoot. Cost is $10 to cover ribbons and pins. Call or email John Bowersox for more info. Also Saturday morning, some other members will be setting up for the club 3D shoot the next day. Any help you could offer would be appreciated. Sunday our club shoot begins at 9am. Be there early to register and get your group assignments. The weather has been beautiful. It should be a great weekend to shoot a bow!

Several members have mentioned that the target butts on the practice range are starting to get worn and the arrows are passing through. Please remember to stagger your targets so that you aren't shooting down the middle of the targets. We are only getting about 25% of the potential use out of targets because we aren't using the four corners. Each target butt can hold four targets so please use the corners to prolong the life of what we have.

•Wednesday, July 6 at 7 pm there will be a club meeting at Bellante's off of Forest Hill.

•Saturday, July 10 at 9:30 we will be shooting a 50m FITA Round at the club.

•Saturday, July 16 we will be having a work party to continue making improvements to the range.

•Sunday, July 17 at 8am will be our monthly club 3D shoot.

May 22- Martin County Farm Bureau Shoot

Our club will be helping the Martin County Farm Bureau put on a benefit 3D shoot for Future Farmers this Sunday. Shoot starts at 9 am, registration at 8 am. Cost is $25. It is being held at Ranch Feed store in Hobe Sound. There will be lots of giveaways and contests. Hope to see you there.

•We are setting up for the Traveling 3D on Saturday morning at 9am. We could really use your help.
•After the work party, we are shooting the USA Archery Indoor round at 11am. Join us for one of the most challenging rounds in archery.

Regional Field- May 23

Gold Coast will be hosting the Regional Field on Sunday, May 23. Start time has been changed to 8am in order to beat the heat. There will be a work party on Saturday to put up target and clean up the field lanes. It should be a quick work party.

•Don't forget this weekend is the Traveling 3D at our club. Please email Corky if you could bring something for the pot luck lunch.

•Remember the May Traveling 3D competition at Everglades has been postponed, the new date is SATURDAY, June 19. The remaining schedule is as follows: March 21- Gold Coast, April 11- Ft Lauderdale, June 6-Everglades, June 19- Everglades.

ASA Indoor League- Now on Thursday nights!

The ASA Indoor League will now be on Thursday nights at 5pm instead of Saturday mornings. Join us for the rest of the month of March and the beginning of April to shoot this very fun competition. We will probably be doing a 3D league when the ASA Indoor league finishes.

Gander Mountain Money Shoot

Gander Mountain will be hosting an Indoor money shoot on Saturday, March 27 at 1pm. There will be 3 classes: Open, Bowhunter, and Youth (as long as there are 5 or more, under 18 requires parent supervision). You must pre-register in the archery department at the store. Cost is $10 plus targets. Payback is 60-30-10% for 1-2-3 place.

ASA Indoor League

February Traveling 3D- Location Change

The February 20th Traveling 3D event has changed location from the Indian Reservation to our club. The February shoot will remain on Saturday, February 20th. We will be hosting both the February and March events. We will be setting up sometime on Friday for the shoot. Lunch will be organized sometime within the next few weeks. Because of this change, our scheduled club shoot on February 14 has been cancelled.

Upcoming: ASA Qualifier- May 31

Gold Coast Archers will be hosting an ASA Qualifier May 31 at 9 am. Registration begins at 8 am. The purpose of an ASA qualifier is to qualify for the ASA State Championship on July 11-12. Anyone is welcome to shoot. The club will serve a potluck lunch for an additional $5. There will be a work day on Saturday morning at 9 am to set up for the event. There will also be a club meeting following the shoot on Sunday.

Club Meeting News & Notes

•We will hosting a pot luck lunch during the ASA qualifier on May 31. Your help in providing dishes would be appreciated. Someone will be coordinating that within the next week and a half.

•The next club meeting will be May 31 after the ASA shoot. It will replace the scheduled June 3 meeting.

•We will be taking nominations for the following positions at the May 31 meeting: Maintenance director, Co-Range Captains, Vice-President, and Treasurer.

•Palm Beach County’s KIDFEST is coming up July 16 & 17. Larry Sites is coordinating the Archery booth, and needs volunteers to help. It will be at the PB Fairgrounds. I know it’s still a few months away, but times going quickly, and he’d like to get some sort of schedule set up. Call Larry at 561-371-6931.

•It was also proposed at the meeting that the club join the US Sportsman's Alliance. The USSA is a lobbying group dedicated to protecting sportsmen's rights. They also provide some insurance coverage for member clubs. We will be voting on whether to join or not at the next meeting. For more information on the US Sportsman's Alliance visit www.ussportsmen.org.

Slingshots!

Following the April 26 club 3-D shoot, attended by perhaps 11-12 archers, some members and potential members enjoy the thrill of slingshot shooting at stationary and wind-driven targets, as well as slingshooting paintballs at a target. Coincidentally, both young fellows are named "Jordan". Slingshots, ammo and safety glasses provided by National Slingshot Association Deputy Chief and Florida State Representative Mike Ross.

Special Note: Please do not use broadheads on 3D targets

Evidently, someone has been shooting the 3D targets with broadheads. The club will be forced to keep all the 3D targets in the shipping container if it continues to happen. Broadheads cause excessive damage to the 3D targets and drastically reduces the life of the target. On that note, we are still in need of the equipment necessary to get the dirt into the back where the broadhead pit is. Once the dirt is in, everyone will have a safe, damage free place to shoot their broadheads. Thanks for your cooperation.

This map takes you to exit 49. The range is on the left hand side. If you get to the Ah Tah Thi Ki museum you've gone too far.

At this months club meeting, the idea was brought up to have a weekly 3D league that would meet one night a week at the range. So far Thursday nights seem to be the best night. On Saturday, March 14 Gold Coast Archers will be shooting an International round in preparation for the Florida Archery Association State International on April 4-5. Following the International round, we will have a work party setting up for our monthly club 3D shoot on Sunday, March 15. Come join us and invite a friend!

Novelty 3D #1- January 25, 2009

Gold Coast Archers hosted the first of six Novelty 3D shoots here in South Florida. There were over 50 shooters who participated. There will be one shoot a month at other South Florida clubs. The last one will be in held at Everglades Archers in June. Here is the remaining schedule:
